🕹️ New Game News

The annual shooter is almost here. With launch set for October 23, here’s a plain-English rundown of what’s been confirmed about Modern Warfare 4, minus the trailer music.

Date and platforms

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 releases on October 23, 2026. It’s coming to PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2, and it’s skipping last-generation consoles entirely, which is gaming for “we love you, but please upgrade.” Infinity Ward is the lead studio, and Activision is the publisher.

The story

The campaign opens with North Korea launching a large-scale invasion of the Korean Peninsula. A young South Korean squad fights on collapsing front lines, while Captain Price pursues a personal, covert campaign against the people hunting him. His off-the-books mission collides with the forces behind the invasion, and the conflict spreads around the world, because in Call of Duty, it always does.

Locations shown or described include Korean trench warfare, close-quarters combat in New York, a sequence in Paris, missions in Mumbai and city-wide assaults to retake occupied territory. It’s a tour, but with a much higher chance of explosions.

Multiplayer and DMZ

Activision describes the multiplayer as grounded, precise combat with fluid movement and more player choice. DMZ, the extraction-style mode, casts players as an off-the-books asset behind enemy lines, making decisions about objectives and when to extract from contested zones. In other words: the mode for people who like tension and regret.

The bigger picture

That’s a significant change for fans who’ve been wondering if the calendar had gotten stuck in a loop.

We’ll update this page as more details, including pricing and pre-order bonuses, are confirmed. Until then, you’re allowed to be excited and cynical at the same time. Most of us are.

Details are based on the official announcement as reported at the time of writing. Pricing and editions were not confirmed in the sources we checked.
